MFG 159 - Introduction to Composite Material
2.0 Credits Introduction to a variety of common materials used in composites, such as carbon fiber and fiberglass. Students will gain an understanding of composites, safety, general properties, mold preparation and usages in manufacturing production. Prerequisite MFG 105, MFG 120, and MFG 159 must be taken together. Corequisite MFG 105, MFG 120.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:- Identify why composites are increasingly preferred over metals in industry applications.
- Identify and describe how composites are used in manufacturing industries.
- Identify differences in working with composites structures versus metallic structures.
- Define terms specific to the composites industry.
- Recognize the importance of following all EPA and OSHA safety regulations.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow safety guidelines and standards when working with composites materials.
- Identify the most common types of materials and their processing properties, applications, proper storage, and handling.
