Focuses on the development of the full-length essay while improving students’ reading, writing, sentence, and discussion skills. S/U grade option. Placement by permission, Directed Self-Placement, or completion of ENGLP 90 or PREP 90 with a minimum grade of 2.0.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Summarize and respond to the claims, concepts, and evidence of a text.
Support claims with logical reasons and relevant evidence.
Analyze the structure of texts, including how specific words, sentences, and paragraphs relate to each other and the whole.
Plan, develop, revise, and edit essays.
Write well-developed and coherent essays in which the organization and style are appropriate to purpose and audience.
Use technology to access class components, produce writing, and collaborate with others.
Demonstrate an intermediate command of English grammar and sentence skills, with a particular focus on sentence boundaries and sentence types.
Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions including peer reviews.
