IHCM 300 - Transition to Management in Healthcare
3.0 Credits Essential skills in the direction and management of operations and people for those new to a supervisory role. Includes decision making and communication, best practices for managing diversity in the workplace. Prerequisite Admission to IHCM - BAS program. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Differentiate the role of the supervisor from that of a peer, set expectations and establish appropriate boundaries.
- Identify opportunities and barriers to success for new managers, develop a plan to leverage those opportunities, lessen the impact of the barriers.
- Summarize the basic functions of management and describe how they support a healthy work environment.
- Propose organizational changes and build high performance teams.
- Build communication, meeting coordination,and negotiation expertise.
