MEDA 200 - MA: Advanced Clinical Skills
3.0 Credits Introduction to specialized clinical procedures. Builds skills in medication administration, medical office surgery, emergency care, eye and ear assessment/procedures, techniques to promote tissue healing, patient navigation and education, and telehealth. Corequisite MEDA 201.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe various techniques for medication and immunization administration, identify adverse reactions and emergency procedures to treat them, and discuss medication interactions.
- Explain how the MA assists in clinical procedures and minor surgery such as gynecological examinations, wound care, lesion removal, suturing, and biopsies.
- Explain how to perform eye and ear assessments and procedures, and why they are performed.
- Describe the principal techniques of disinfection and instrument processing and sterilization and handling of hazardous waste according to specified guidelines.
- Prepare students for successful entry into the healthcare workforce by cultivating career transition skills, including crafting compelling resumes and engaging in simulated clinical experiences that mirror professional healthcare settings.
