MEDA 201 - MA: Advanced Clinical Skills Simulation Lab
2.0 Credits Practical application of skills in medication administration, assisting with surgical procedures, performing eye and ear assessments, patient navigation and education, and telehealth. Corequisite MEDA 200.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a provider.
- Demonstrate proficiency in assisting healthcare providers with various clinical procedures, including minor office surgeries and specialized eye and ear assessments, while ensuring proper setup, preparation, and assistance.
- Demonstrate procedures to promote healing, such as application of cold and heat therapies and measuring a patient for crutches, and educating the patient in how to perform their care plan.
- Apply proper techniques for disinfection, instrument processing and sterilization during specified procedures including gynecological exams, biopsies, and cyst removals.
- Demonstrate proper handling of chemical and biohazardous waste in the primary care setting.
- Identify key safety and emergency response protocols within healthcare settings, ensure compliance with established safety practices, demonstrate proper use of eyewash stations and fire extinguishers, employ correct body mechanics, and evaluate workplace environments to identify and address unsafe conditions effectively.
