An advanced ELA class. Students expand reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, math, and technology skills that allow them to succeed in academic, professional/technical, and community settings. The class is aligned with Career and College Readiness Standards (CCRS) as outlined in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2016. Prerequisite: Placement by instructor or advisor.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate comprehension of advanced academic ELA text using a variety of reading strategies.
Develop, organize, draft, revise, edit, and word process an academically formatted 5 paragraph essay including a clear thesis with logical support.
Demonstrate the ability to understand and be understood one-on-one and in groups during collaborative reading and writing activities.
Demonstrate comprehension of advanced academic ELA text using a variety of reading strategies.
Use technology to assist with ELA, to navigate and monitor academic progress in a learning management system, to collaboratively research a contemporary topic and use Google applications for classroom and workplace communication.
Solve contextualized multi-step word problems.
