ELA 73 - Office Skills 3



8.0 Credits
Office Skills Part 3 is an intermediate to advanced ELA course with a focus on building skills for working in an office or transitioning to college. Students develop employability soft skills and job hunting techniques (networking, interviewing, writing a resume and cover letter) while strengthening written and oral communication skills in English and skills with Microsoft Office and Google applications. For students in levels 40-60. This class is aligned with the Career and College Readiness Standards (CCRS), as outlined in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2016. Placement by instructor or advisor.
Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate ability to build and maintain a network and introduce oneself professionally with an “elevator speech.”
  2. Demonstrate ability to evaluate employment related goals and create and identify employment search tools.
  3. Demonstrate ability to apply reading strategies to learn about employment soft skills and job search trends in the U.S.
  4. Demonstrate ability to create, revise, and edit a resume and cover letter.
  5. Demonstrate ability to use technology to navigate a learning management system and apply computer application skills for academic and workplace communication.
