HUM 250 - Ethics & Policy in Healthcare
5.0 Credits Application and analysis of values, ethics, legal decision-making frameworks, and policies that support the health and well-being of individuals, families, populations, and healthcare professionals. Prerequisite Admission to the RN program is required to take this course. Course-level Learning Objectives (CLOs) Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Examine collaboration patterns and identify barriers to effective communication within healthcare systems.
- Investigate the cultural and social factors influencing communication with diverse patients, families, and communities.
- Evaluate the impact of public policy on patient care and the ethical dilemmas associated with clinical decision-making.
- Discuss the legal and ethical considerations related to research to establish evidence-based practices that ensure safe, high-quality care.
- Analyze how laws and facility policies impact patient care while recognizing the ethical conflicts that arise from health disparities.
- Identify strategies for nurses to advocate effectively for culturally diverse patients, families, and communities.
