Associate in Computer Science - Direct Transfer Agreement

Program Description This pathway is applicable to students planning to prepare for computer science and related majors at universities and colleges in Washington. This pathway meets the basic requirements of the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) that all schools have in common. Computer science programs are competitive and this pathway intends to provide students with the needed information to optimize their coursework to meet the DTA and prepare for computer science and related majors at universities and colleges in Washington. This degree requires successful completion of a minimum of 98 credits as outlined.
Additional or specific elective courses are required for direct transfer to some schools. Please see the Program Notes section regarding specific university/college transfer requirements. Consultation with advising is recommended.
Advising Note This program requirement sheet is not a substitute for meeting with an academic advisor. Meeting the requirements to graduate with an Edmonds College certificate or degree is ultimately the responsibility of the student.

General Education Requirements (15 credits)
Communication Skills (10 credits)
OUTCOME: Communicate and interact effectively through a variety of methods appropriate to audience, context, purpose, and field/discipline. Quantitative Analysis/Symbolic Reasoning Skills (5 credits)
OUTCOME: Reason clearly using academic or professional modes of inquiry; using quantitative or symbolic reasoning; and/or using other discipline/field specific methods to explore and create solutions; identify information needs; process, evaluate, and use information; and recognize, analyze, and solve problems. Cultural Diversity Skills

OUTCOME: Use humanities-based methods to reason, communicate, make meaning, solve problems, and/or create or perform cultural works for diverse audiences and purposes. Natural Sciences and Mathematics (15 credits)
OUTCOME: Use scientific and mathematical methods, modes of inquiry, and terminology to demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, and application of science concepts and insights. At least 10 credits required from any lab science intended for science and engineering majors. Physics meets most univeristy transfer requirements. Students should check with their intended transfer institutions to determine what (if any) additional science classes meet this requirement.
Social Sciences (15 credits)
OUTCOME: Use social science theories and methods to reason, communicate, apply insights, solve problems, and to develop a critical understanding of the diversity and interdependence of peoples and cultures. Program Requirements (15 credits)
OUTCOMES: - Analyze and evaluate data structures, algorithms and implementation decisions for efficiency and performance.
- Design and evaluate a solution to a programming problem; implement the design with a well tested and documented solution.
- Demonstrate, produce, and communicate understanding of a program in both a detailed technical way and a summary understandable to the general public.
- Utilize appropriate development tools to design, document, write and improve programs.

OUTCOME: Develop professional and academic skills and strategies for career and college success. ____Career and College Success Requirement met Note: The Career and College Success course credits apply to General Electives in this degree and must be completed within the first two quarters. The program code for this degree is CSACSAA. For financial aid, advising, and other reasons, students should work with their advisor to ensure that this code is properly recorded on their academic record. - Each institution may have specific requirements, students should contact potential transfer institutions early regarding the specific course choices. Computer Science programs are competitve and may require GPA overall or a higher GPA for specific courses.
*General Education Requirements Notes **Distribution Requirements Notes - A maximum of 10 credits in any one department may be included in the 45 distribution credits.
- Humanities: Select courses from at least two (2) departments/disciplines within this distribution area. A maximum of five (5) credits in Performance/Skills courses may be applied. And a maximum of five (5) credits in foreign language at the 100 level may be applied.
- Natural Sciences: Select courses from at least two (2) departments/disciplines within this distribution area. At least ten (10) credits of Natural Science classes must be a laboratory science designed for science and engineering students. (Laboratory science courses are marked with an asterisk on the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Distribution Course List.) Computer Science, Mathematics, and Philosophy courses are not Natural Science courses.
- Social Sciences: Select courses from at least two (2) departments/disciplines within this distribution area.

Program of Study Outcomes Edmonds College’s four General Education Outcomes (Communicate, Act Responsibly, Reason, and Explore) are promoted throughout the college’s programs. Instructional programs of 45 credits or more foster learning in all four General Education Outcomes. Student achievement is assessed in the general and program specific outcomes via the courses and course objectives that align with those outcomes. Credit/Grade Requirements A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required college-level (100-level or above) credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college-level courses. Students Are Advised To - Review how to apply for certain exams to be awarded as credit.
- Plan your schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year;
- Review the college catalog for required course prerequisites and include these in schedule planning;
- Communicate with an academic advisor and/or a faculty advisor; and
- At least three quarters before you plan to graduate, contact any college(s) where you have earned credits and have your official transcript(s) sent to Edmonds College. Then, submit an Evaluation Request - Transfer Credits Form (available in Enrollment Services) to activate the process of transferring credits to Edmonds College.
Graduation Application It is the student’s responsibility to apply for graduation. Your degree or certificate will not be awarded unless you submit a graduation application. A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted online by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Note: Applications for summer quarter are due by the 8th day of the quarter. Transferring to Another University or College - Admission application deadlines vary, students must meet the deadline for the university or college to which they plan to apply for admission to transfer.
- Completion of this degree does not guarantee admission to a transfer institution.
- Consultation with the appropriate department or an advisor at the intended transfer school is highly recommended.
