Degree Notes
Academic pathways: Associate of Technical Arts degrees are designed to provide professional and technical training to prepare students for specific jobs or to improve existing skills, and is not designed to transfer to other programs. With planning, this program can contain one or more Social and Human Services or Family Support certificates, or form the basis of an AAS-T degree in Social and Human Services. (See the Social and Human Services AAS-T program map for more information about pathways to Bachelor’s programs).
Career pathways: As currently configured, this degree contains the Prevention Certificate and the Reentry Navigator Certificate. Other Social and Human Services and Family Support and Mental Health Technician certification, with pre-planning, can be integrated into this degree pathway. This degree program can lead to work as a case manager, lay the foundation for work as a social worker, mental health counselor, child and family therapist, social services advocate, youth worker or other social services positions.
Program Map Notes
- Starting Term: These maps are designed to start in the Fall and may have Summer terms (indicated by “Term S - Summer”). Students starting in terms other than Fall should talk to an advisor.
- Course Sequence: Courses are listed in a specific order to satisfy program requirements. Do not swap classes unless directed to by an advisor. Some courses may have limited offerings during the year. Work with an advisor to create a custom plan if needed.
- Time to Complete: You may complete your program earlier or later depending on transferred credits, how many classes you take per term, and any prerequisite or pre-college courses you need.
- Transfer Requirements: This is a career-focused degree and is not designed to transfer to a traditional four-year degree. To consider furthering your education, you can move to the AAS-T degree in Social and Human Services. From there you could transfer to a bachelor’s degree at Edmonds in Child Youth and Family Studies or you could consider transferring to a bachelor’s degree at another community college.
- Reading this map: “Choose One” sections provide course options that could work for your degree regardless of what you choose. When you see “Discuss With Advisor,” you should work with your advisor to select these courses to help you meet graduation requirements as well as university admission or major requirements.
- Electives and Certificates: When this plan is completed using the electives listed in italics, you will also earn both the Prevention Certificate of Completion and the Reentry Navigator Certificate of Completion, however, you are welcome to take any elective courses that meet your needs.

- Placement for Math is not required to begin this program. MATH 47 placement is recommended before starting certain classes.
- Placement into ENGL& 101 is recommended before beginning this program, and is required in order to follow this program map sequence.
