Fire Officer - Certificate

See program requirement sheet.

The Fire Officer Certificate program is a supplementary program designed to enhance the technical and general education of the career firefighter.

Edmonds Community College, in cooperation with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, has developed this system to provide the volunteer, paid firefighter and officer the opportunity to acquire an associate degree with a state standardized curriculum, and a program that will lead to an Associate of Applied Science-T Degree.

Other related fire service training may be accepted as elective credits, provided that the training course is tested and documented with a course description and outline with a minimum of 10 hours of training per course. Submission for approval must be within five years of said training to be accepted toward the Fire Officer Degree.

Modifications may be made with approval of the program coordinator.

Credit/Grade Requirements This Certificate requires successful completion of a minimum of 39 credits as outlined. A minimum of 30 credits or one-third of the required credits, whichever is less, must be earned at Edmonds Community College. Students are required to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all college-level courses.

Note: Elective courses may be selected with the approval of an FOD program adviser. Other related fire service training may be accepted based upon appropriate documentation and approval of the program coordinator.

Graduation Application A completed Graduation Application form must be submitted to Enrollment Services by the 10th day of the quarter in which the student expects to graduate. Forms are available online or at Enrollment Services located in Lynnwood Hall.

Students are advised to:

  • Plan their schedule several quarters in advance in order to accommodate courses that are offered only once or twice a year,
